Trailways GPS Web Based Integration Solution

Trailways Voyager GPS Tracking System

Trailways, which was founded in 1936, represents North America's first organization supporting, promoting, and assisting independent motorcoach owners & operators. The organization aggressively pursues new marketing, business and global alliance opportunities for its owner/operator-network; and it provides travelers with a variety of transportation connections. Trailways is one of the world's most well-respected and identifiable brand names in the travel and transportation industry, exemplifying quality service, reliability, safety, and business integrity.

Trailways is an organization supported primarily by motorcoach and travel-related companies that adhere to the highest level of operating standards and practices in the industry. The member-network operates a variety of safe, well-maintained, and late-model transportation equipment. Trailways continues to move toward its goal of becoming a fully-integrated transportation and travel services provider to better serve the emerging needs of the traveling public of the 21st Century.

Beginning in 2004, Lock Media Services, Inc. started working with Trailways National office to develop the Voyager GPS Tracking, Communication, and Dispatching System. This system was developed under a federal Home Land Security-TSA Grant funded to Trailways National for the purpose of enhancing motorcoach security.

The Voyager GPS Tracking System is built upon an open-architecture platform that allows information to be securely communicated to a datacenter from a remote vehicle. This information is then made available to the Voyager System users through a secure 128-bit SSL web-based application. The Voyager web application is available to system user 24/7 from any computer with an Internet connection. The core mapping and reporting components do not require any client side applications or other third party software to be installed on the user's computer in order to utilize the core functionality of the system.

The Voyager System components are comprised of both in-vehicle hardware and a centralized managed datacenter. The Voyager systems complex network required the integration of both off-the-shelf technologies, and custom-designed web services, that include the following technologies:

GPS Wireless Network In-Vehicle Locator System

The on-board system allows for tracking through GPS technology with the ability to relay real-time location information to a managed network data center via wireless communications. This includes GPS wireless communications hardware and engine indicator sensing options for logging engine on/off and percentage of idling time.

Web-Based Mapping and Data Logging Application

The web-based application provides real-time vehicle location information securely accessible 24/7 from any computer with an internet connection. The Voyager application provides accurate map detail for displaying city/street address information. The system includes complete interfacing, electronic logging, and automated electronic notification.
