Wireless Messaging Services

Lock Media offers several options for accessing mailboxes on our Hosted Microsoft Exchange service via wireless devices, including the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for the popular BlackBerry devices from RIM, and Exchange Activesync for users of Windows Mobile devices (including the latest "Direct Push Technology").

BlackBerry Enterprise Service

BlackBerry 7200Fully integrated with Lock Media's Exchange services, the BlackBerry makes creating and retrieving information amazingly simple with an optimized keyboard, thumb-operated trackwheel, easy-to-read backlit screen and intuitive menu-driven interface. The BlackBerry, from Research in Motion (RIM), is the most popular wireless device for connecting to enterprise email accounts, enabling users to send and receive email, and access their contacts, calendars, task lists, and other functions from virtually anywhere with a wireless connection.

The BlackBerry wireless email solution allows you to send and receive wireless email from virtually anywhere in the United States, or in a growing number of European countries, through a device the size of a pager. Lock Media offers the BlackBerry wireless device as an enhancement to Microsoft Exchange, giving mobile employees the capabilities to access calendars, receive meeting requests and reminders, task reminders, and other messages generated by Exchange's groupware functions, as well as building a single mailbox for all messages, both wireless and landline.

"Always-Connected" Email Service
The BlackBerry is designed to remain on and continuously connected to the wireless network, allowing you to be discreetly notified as new email arrives. Users find this much more convenient that the "dial and connect" method used by some other wireless devices, which require users to dial into a wireless network on a sporadic basis to send and receive new emails.

Because Lock Media links the BlackBerry with a Microsoft Exchange mailbox, virtually all of the functions available within Microsoft Outlook are also available within the BlackBerry software: detailed contact information, tasks lists, calendar information and reminders, and more. Additionally, if you subscribe to newsletters or alert services with your Exchange mailbox, the same newsletters and alerts will show up on your BlackBerry.

Exchange Activesync for Windows Mobile Devices

Treo 700Users of wireless Windows Mobile (Pocket PC) devices can get full wireless access to their Lock Media Exchange mailbox functions, with Lock Media's Exchange Activesync.  This service brings the power of the corporate intranet to the latest generation of mobile devices, so no matter where you are, you can securely gain access to your email messages, contacts, calendars, tasks, etc. And with Windows Mobile 5.0 on your handheld device, and Microsoft's advanced "push" technology, the service is even better!

Exchange ActiveSync is a communication protocol that enables mobile, "over-the-air" access to your e-mail messages, schedules, contacts, tasks lists, and other Exchange Server mailbox data. Exchange ActiveSync is available on both Windows Mobile–based devices and Exchange ActiveSync–enabled devices offered through Microsoft partners. By taking advantage of Exchange ActiveSync through compatible devices and software, you can avoid the added cost of middleware or service fees.

Lock Media supports Exchange Server 2003 SP2, which supports new Direct Push Technology, enabling a seamless push e-mail experience for compatible devices. Exchange ActiveSync uses an encrypted HTTPS connection established and maintained between the device and the server to push new e-mail messages, schedules, contact information, and tasks to the device. Synchronization is much faster with enhanced data compression translating to a faster experience when sending and receiving messages. The Exchange ActiveSync protocol also provides for control over mobile devices, including new abilities in SP2 to provision and enforce device security policies.

Outlook Mobile Access
Lock Media also supports Outlook Mobile Access (OMA), a native feature of Microsoft Exchange that establishes a real-time connection with Exchange from a browser-enabled wireless Internet device. The advantage of OMA is that it supports many non-Microsoft devices; also, because data doesn't reside locally on the device, physical security is enhanced. OMA 2003 supports Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0 devices.
